After spending Monday and Tuesday making preparations, we lit off the old Freightshaker in the wee hours of the morning before sunup, and pointed her east to Flagstaff.
We have a lot on our plate this week, and the next stop was at our favorite solar parts supplier.
There we picked up two tiny batteries and a pair of big inverters.
It was a bit of a nerve racking 25 minute hop from there to the job with something like 150K worth of stuff strapped to the trailer.
But it was an easy trip and we had taken care to to secure everything well and we arrived on the job without incident.
We had only a couple hours to get the batteries unloaded and set in place before the rental lift that we had delivered had to go back home, so we jumped right into it.
Here’s the first one on the ground and opened up.
You may recognize this as the same Discover battery that Denise posed in front of at the RE+ show in Vegas a few weeks ago.
The 30mm threaded lifting eyes for this are almost comically big!
While this broken pallet made rigging for lift fun-it really made hauling it on the trailer fun. 😬 For the haul, we had to get a forklift under one side and shim the remaining pallet with timbers carefully.
Nothing like a 5,500 pound top heavy item that’s worth 50K being unstable when you go to transport it. 🙄
A cool feature of the batteries. This is a pressure relief panel that blows if the worst happens so the cabinet doesn’t explode.
If fairly short order, the first battery was in place.
And then there were two!
It was a relief to have these in place!
Our work was far from done though-because this big pile of switch gear was waiting for us when we arrived on site and it all needs installation too!!
